Scots wha hae!....and indeed we do. Changes to the locale now include Homebase,
Acorn Petstore, a new stretch of road and a reminder that you are not still on the motorway in the guise of a flashing '30'
sign near ASDA. The school is open, the pitches are being used,
the Wallace Memorial is tidy and easier to park at (nice when showing it off to visitors) .....in fact all seems well, you
could say 'Wallace' well.
So, whilst we are on the topic of National Identity, permit me
to draw your attention to a wee oversight........Homebase is in the wrong place! Not only the wrong place but the
wrong region.
Ceàrr? I hear you ask....and there's the rub. We have the store that
was meant for Inverness...which can only mean that Inverness has ours. Can you imagine the poor folk up North trying
to work out 'wae oot', 'wid', 'wa paper', 'corpet tape' and other Weegie signs?? Whilst I applaud anyone clever enough
to learn Gaelic and whilst I am as patriotic as the next Scot, I am left a wee bitty 'air chall' about the whole affair.
Maybe President Salmond has decreed that all signs are now bilingual, so in the spirit of the whole affair I say to you...
Goannnageeusoorshoapbackmister.
On another subject we have a nice new stretch of road leading from the M80
to our cosy homes...and, on the way home, we get to marvel at how many ways there are to negotiate a roundabout.
Here's a tip....the best way round a roundabout is with your eyes open! I am the first to agree that the signage is confusing,
but with a little patience and a wee bit of dredging up the rules of the highway code, we should all be able to get on and
off these whirly-gigs safely. Remember the MSM rule stands for 'mirror, signal, manoeuvre'....not 'me speed mindlessly'
Take a moment to consider that it might be your kid
crossing the road or your car unable to stop in time! I've seen it first hand folks....and
it's not at all nice.
