Mad March Hair!Whoop whoop! It's March already and according to my logic... 'things can only get better'....(double points for all those
that sang the last sentence in the style of John Prescott!). So without further ado, here's my logic....
- Long lettered months are cold, short lettered months are not so cold
- The short months first letters spell out JAM JAM as an anagram - sweet!
- March is when the garden wakes up and braves the weather.
- Rhubarb is in season again and it's still cold enough to order rhubarb crumble and custard for Sunday Lunch!!
But it is not all about my twisted logic...March is well recognised by others too........
March was named after Mars, the Roman god of war and was deemed to be the start of the year in the Julian Calendar...and
also the start of military planning for the year! So we'll ditch that one.
The ancient britons called March hyld-monath - loud or stormy....I think we've seen enough of the Gales
this last month!
The Finnish people call March Maaliskuu - the earthy month, this was when earth started to show from under
the snow....what with the house building in the Robroyston area, I am sure more than a few of us have looked out on building
sites with bare earth for long enough now!
All well and good but I propose that we name March after a more modern phenomena, the end of a long continous event which
comes about year after year without fail and at about this time morphs into a new and powerful entity.......
I propose that March is named after the Sofa god De'efus and should mark the end of the Winter Sale and the start of
the Spring Sale. (I heard it must end soon!).
Mad March is the start of a new year no matter how we look at it, so let your hair down, shake those winter blues
off and enjoy the growing season!
